August 16th: Welcome back everyone to OVHS. I hope your summer breaks were fun and relaxing. As for me, I always find that they're too short. ;) I'm looking forward to a fun and productive 2018-2019 school year. Beginning Fall 2017, OVHS will fully implement a new set of science education standards called the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). These standards require teachers and students to focus on only essential learning targets, making chemistry concepts more accessible and easy to follow. Additionally, the standards will involve investigating other science fields and how they relate to this class. Not only will we be learning chemistry concepts, we will also be covering topics in Earth science, climate change, and space as they relate to chemistry. My approach to tackling this information is structured, fun, and full of demonstrations and experiments so that you can see science in real time. This will not be a rigid, lecture-only class; that would get boring real quick, even for me. Rather, it will be hands-on and full of discussion as we embark on this journey in learning real-world science. I wish you all the best and GO COYOTES!!
