Mr. Conklin's specific behavior expectations:
I value respect, honesty, and hard work. There is a lot to be done this year, so in order to optimize learning, your cooperation with the following class norms will be greatly appreciated.
General Class Norms:
* Please pick up the worksheets for the day from the counter by the door upon entering class.
* All students must be in their assigned seats when the bell rings.
* All students must immediately take out paper and begin working on the bell work either individually or together.
* Please keep all electronics (phones, iPods, etc.) away during class. There will be times for us to use them, at my discretion. I do take phones per my electronics policy. I will ask to keep it until the end of the period. Persistent misuse of electronics will result in a referral.
Interruptions during lecture and disruptive behavior during group discussions are not tolerated. I have to keep a safe, fun, and productive learning environment for ALL. That being said, any form of abuse, physical or verbal, that is directed at staff or student will be met with the utmost discipline. I also do not allow the use of foul language or racial slurs. Please review the hierarchy of progressive discipline:
* Step 1 - Verbal warning
* Step 2 - Verbal warning, student conference, possible low-level referral.
* Step 3 - Teacher-assigned consequence, low-level referral, and parent contact
* Step 4 - Office referral, remove from class, and parent contact. Possible multi-day class suspension.
Persistent daily disruptions will incur other consequences at the discretion of the teacher.
Tardies and Truancies:
I follow the school's policy regarding tardies and truancies. Students will be required to have an attendance pass if they arrive late or truant beyond the allotted grace periods. If you show up late or truant past the grace period without a pass, you will be directed back to attendance to get one. Per administration's requirements, I cannot be lax with this matter. The learning environment is disrupted and students miss a lot when they are late or truant.
